Welcome to DWLSC!

Dawlish Warren is a narrow land mass that forms a natural breakwater for the Exe estuary in south east Devon. The tidal waters flow through a narrow passage between Warren Point and Exmouth, this results in super fast literal currents and unpredictable surf, the Warren's waters are a deceptively dangerous place to bathe.

In the first half of the last century, the Warren waters claimed countless lives, and the outcry for something to be done to safeguard the beach users became louder and louder. But talk is cheap, and it wasn't until 1966 when the local council and police force formed the Dawlish Warren Life Saving Club; which voluntarily protected beach goers from the dangerous waters.

The Warren Has changed vastly since the formation of the club nearly 50 years ago, redevelopment, beach erosion, even the golden sands are now a stony shingle, Dawlish Warren Life Saving Club remains and is stronger than ever.

During the summer we still patrol the beach and several of our members are employed by the RNLI during peak season. As well as protecting our own beach, we are involved in safety cover for local swimming events, national triathlons (such as London and Blenheim), we are also a coastguard declared facility, which means Brixham Coastguard radio us in the event of an emergency in our area.

As well as protecting the public, we train beach lifeguards to the highest standard and on many levels, from basic courses for the under 12's right on through to advanced resuscitation courses.

If you're looking for a more competitive experience, Surf Life Saving is a world wide sport and our members compete in regional, national and even worldwide events!

We have all necessary facilities at the Warren in our traditional beach hut, including first aid equipment, training aids, paddle boards, skis, hot showers and our most prized possession, an Arancia Inshore Rescue Boat or IRB.

Our club is here today due to the hard work of its members, we are not 'a train and go home' club. Social involvement of our members is essential, we form a chatty, friendly group that will make you feel right at home. Our members are asked to help with fund raising, participation in demonstrations, beach patrol hours, and club maintenance.

So whether you looking for a new hobby, wish to develop your first aid skills, or taking your first steps to becoming a beach lifeguard? Look no further!

Because they say "Warren lifeguards are way out in front." ;)
